Getting Weird with Pleasure
Weird or Wyrd as is in the Old English spelling has etymological roots meaning to be fated or to be destined. Pre-Christian times, weird was associated with great power, witches, and those of the earth. It wasn't until the portrayal of witches in Shakespeare's Macbeth (1630), stained with witch hunt doctrines, that we began to associate "wyrd" with the negative.
"What we call wyrd is really the work of God" - King Alfred
This is an invitation to get WEIRD/WYRD/WERD. Simply having the intention, giving yourself permission is the big part. Continuing to give yourself the permission might be the challenge.
Invitation: Trust your weird - believe what impulses, ideas, movements you have when you set your intention in your practice to be weird. Notice anywhere you carry shame or judgement about your own version of weird. Let it be simple or allow it to be grand. Follow your weirdest pleasure.
Hot Tip: To support getting out of your own head about it, before you begin, select some random 'weird' props from your home or bedroom. They don't have to be sexy or seem erotic in any way. Grab your rubber ducky from your bath, a spatula, a paper bag, whatever feels 'weird' to you. Keep these things near you as you follow your pleasure, and perhaps allow any impulses to play with them. See where the weird take you...
